The software development community has long since had a vast marketplace of open-source resources, providing developers necessary building blocks for their projects. Its time Systems Engineers and Designers have the same sort of community. Albers Aerospace is establishing this community, allowing for expertise to be captured in MBSE models, shrinking design timelines by allowing for composition from a library of existing solutions, and lowering the barrier for entry to creating useful models for others to use.

The infrastructure for this community rests in a plugin for the Cameo suite of tools which allows the user to quickly search through a library of models and add applicable open-source models as project usages to their local models. Types of models relevant for inclusion to the open-source community include, but are not limited to, component libraries, interface libraries, reference architectures, overlay analysis models, and specific component design models.
